Data and Privacy Policy for NewsAssist AI

Effective Date: 12/5/2025

This policy is designed to clearly outline our dedication to your data privacy, anchored by our Client-Side Confidentiality architecture.

1. Our Core Commitment: Zero Data Retention (The Architecture)

NewsAssist AI is built on a Zero Data Retention principle regarding your confidential content. This principle is a technological constraint, not just a policy.

  • No Server Storage: We do not store, retain, or train our AI models on any of the proprietary content you upload (legal filings, academic drafts, transcripts, etc.).
  • In-Memory Processing: All high-value analysis is processed instantly in temporary server memory and immediately purged upon completion or session termination.
  • Client-Side Storage: Any saved drafts, project data, or unsent analysis remains only on your local device (browser's IndexedDB/Local Storage). You have absolute control over this data.
2. Information We Collect (Minimalist Approach)

Due to our unique architecture, the types of data we collect are minimal and limited primarily to account management and non-identifiable technical data.

  • Account Data: Email address, secure password hash, billing information (via third-party payment processor), User Role (Journalist, Academic, Legal). Purpose: Account access, service provision, billing, and communication.
  • Technical Usage Data: General platform usage, feature usage frequency, system error logs, anonymized device information. NO IP address is logged. Purpose: To monitor service stability, calculate quotas, and troubleshoot errors.
  • Audit Log Metadata: Timestamp, User ID, Action Type, Filename (for reference only). NO CONTENT. Purpose: Required for legal compliance and proving Zero Data Retention.
3. Crucial Exclusion: Content and Queries

We do not collect, log, store, or share the following: The Content of Your Uploads, The Content of Your AI Prompts, or The Analysis Results (extracted entities, summaries).

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the minimal data collected (Section 2) exclusively for the following purposes: Service Delivery, Security & Compliance (Audit Log), and Communication.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We only share data in the following circumstances: Service Providers (secure payment processors/hosting), and Legal Obligation (only if required by a binding legal order).

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have rights regarding your personal data (Access, Correction, Deletion). Since your confidential content is stored locally, your control over that data is absolute.

7. Changes and Contact

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our services or legal requirements. We will notify you of any material changes.
